You’ve seen the coverage hundreds, if not thousands, of times. A celebrity in a tuxedo, moving in impossibly slow motion, the camera swooping in like a bird of prey before pulling back to reveal the perfect smile. It looks expensive. It looks high-tech. It looks compulsively edited.
But it’s not any of those things. It’s Glambot.
If you’re planning an event, whether that’s a red carpet premiere, a corporate activation that needs to be exciting, or a wedding that ruins all other weddings for its guests, then you need this technology.
“Great,” you might be thinking cynically. “This technology sounds amazing, but I don’t have a degree in engineering (or any spare time) to get this thing set up.”
Fortunately, you don’t need either. We’re going to walk you through exactly what it takes to set up a Glambot so you can understand what goes into it, why the results are blockbuster-quality, and how the process is something we can handle for you.
That way, all you need to focus on is the applause.
What is a Glambot?
Before we get into the nuts and bolts, let’s clarify what you’re renting here. A Glambot is a high-speed robotic arm paired with a high-frame-rate camera. This isn’t your cousin’s photo booth with the feather boas and oversized sunglasses.
Instead, this is a precision instrument that was originally designed for industrial manufacturing, now repurposed to make people look…well, famous.
The robot moves faster than a human cameraman ever could. It captures videos at high frame rates (often hundreds of frames per second), which means when you play it back, everything slows down to that buttery, liquid-smooth motion you see at the Oscars.
Interactive video content increases social media engagement so much more than static photos. People aren’t just interested in taking photos anymore. They want to make a moment. And nothing makes a moment quite like robots.
Preparing the Ground
Setting up a Glambot is a process that starts long before the robot arrives. You need to start by preparing your space. This is a machine that’s dynamic, that moves fast, and that needs plenty of room to breathe.
Space Requirements
You’ll need a dedicated footprint for your Glambot. Ideally, if you’re using the authentic Glambot, we recommend a safety radius of at least 15 by 15 feet around the robot to make sure that when the arm swings wide to get that perfect panoramic shot, it doesn’t accidentally take out a waiter carrying a tray of champagne. If you’re using a different type of Glambot, like the one you’ll see used by most rental companies, 12 by 12 feet is adequate. The more space, however, the better!
Similarly, the floor needs to be stable and level. This should be concrete, hardwood, or very firm industrial carpet. If you put the Glambot on a plush, sinking rug, the footage could become shaky, and shaky footage will ruin that illusion of cinematic perfection you’re seeking.
Power Needs
This beast needs juice! You can’t plug a Glambot into a daisy chain of three different extension cords you found in a janitor’s closet. Instead, you need a reliable, dedicated power source with grounded outlets, a non-negotiable both for safety and for equipment stability.
For a true, industrial-grade Glambot, you’ll typically need a three-phase power tie-in. While some companies have successfully converted these heavy-duty robots to run on a 120V power supply, there’s a trade-off: they simply won’t move as fast as they would with a full three-phase connection. On the other end of the spectrum, if you are renting a portable model typically offered by most photo booth companies, a standard 120V outlet with at least 15 amps of power will be just fine.
Lighting Considerations
Because the camera shoots at such a high frame rate, it needs a lot of light. Likely more light than you think! If you rely on the dim, romantic mood lighting of your venue, your videos will look grainy and dark.
We bring professional, diffused lighting to blast the subject without blinding them. The goal is soft, even coverage that eliminates harsh shadows under the eyes. We’re aiming for supermodel glow, not interrogation room.
Also, remember that a strobing light is sometimes used to simulate the effects of paparazzi camera. While this can be disconcerting to some, others like the “authentic” feel. If you can’t decide, no worries. This feature can also be implemented in post-editing to save on flashing the room for the entire event!
The Step-by-Step Setup Process
When our team arrives at your event, we move with military precision. Here’s what happens from the moment the cases roll in until the first guest steps up.
Unpacking
The Glambot travels in one of two ways: the real Glambot rolls in on its own, as the robot is on removable wheels. The more common, consumer-friendly (and smaller) bots typically come in road cases.
Assembling the Robot
For the real, professional-grade robots, assembly is mostly done before arrival. Once on site, you simply position the robot, make ure it’s level, add the necessary weights for stability, and remove the transport wheels.
For smaller robots, sometimes a single piece of track is added to allow for more dramatic camera moves. However, with larger models like the Bolt or Bolt XL, their longer arms provide enough swing and range on their own, making the track unnecessary.
Consumer robots require a bit more manual assembly. For our units, you start by attaching the robot track to the legs. Next, you secure the robot arm to the base and connect all necessary wires to complete the setup.
Mounting the Camera
Once the arm is secure, it’s time to mount the camera. For the true Glambot experience, a Phantom VEO is used to capture those signature high-speed, cinematic shots.
On consumer Glambots, you’ll generally find a GoPro or a high-frame-rate DSLR or mirrorless camera as the primary capture device. The camera is then connected directly to the robot’s control system, typically via USB-C or HDMI, to allow for minimal latency between the robot’s movements and the camera’s trigger.
Connecting the Control Station
For the true Glambot, we operate the Bolt robot using a professional motion control program called Flair. Flair provides precise command over the robot’s movements and synchronizes flawlessly with the high-speed camera for cinematic results.
On consumer Glambots, the control station typically runs a variety of photo booth-based software that supports slow-motion video and is optimized for speedy, shareable workflows at events. This setup usually operates from a laptop or iPad and is designed to let guests easily record and instantly access their videos.
Marking the Spot
For the true Glambot, the spot for each guest is marked during calibration and testing. This positioning is carefully determined based on the programmed camera move and the focal length of the camera lens, ensuring each shot is perfectly framed.
On consumer Glambots, the setup is generally simpler, with the camera set to auto focus. This makes positioning more flexible, allowing guests to easily step into the frame without the need for exact marks.
Calibration and Testing
Before we let anyone near it, we run calibration tests with some practice “swoops.” We check the focus, the lighting, and the speed. We also make sure the movement is smooth and the path is safe. Only when we are 100% satisfied do we declare the Glambot open for business.
Finding Your Perfect Fit: Types of Glambots

The Glambot
This is the big one. The heavy hitter. The flagship Glambot features our largest, most advanced robotic arm, with the longest reach and the most complex range of motion. It utilizes top-of-the-line film quality equipment, including Mark Roberts Motion Control robots, Phantom VEO or RED cameras, and high-quality professional lighting like ARRI fixtures.
If you want those sweeping, dramatic shots that start at the shoes and end with a hair flip, this is your guy. It delivers cinematic-quality slow-motion videos with a level of precision that makes jaws drop.
This is for clients who want to make a massive statement. When people walk into the room and see this machinery, they know they are at a serious event.
Glambot Jr.
Maybe your venue has slightly lower ceilings, or your budget is a bit tighter. In that case, you might want to consider the Glambot Jr. It features a slightly smaller robotic arm but keeps the impressive movement capabilities.
You still get the stunning slow-motion videos, just in a slightly more compact package. It’s perfect for mid-sized events where you still want that premium feel without the massive footprint of the flagship model.
Glambot Mini
Again, we recognize that space is at a premium in many venues. If you’re working with a cozy gallery space or a crowded trade show booth, the Glambot Mini is your go-to, as it’s our most compact and portable option.
The workflow is streamlined, the setup is faster, and the footprint is tiny. But don’t let the size fool you. It still captures fun, high-quality slow-motion videos that look fantastic on Instagram. It’s the ideal choice for budget-conscious clients who refuse to compromise on the cool factor.
Safety First
This guide wouldn’t be complete without at least a cursory mention of safety features on the Glambot, and how they come into play during setup. Remember, a robotic arm moving at high velocity isn’t a toy, and safety considerations need to be taken seriously.
Every operator we send has their hand hovering over a big red button: the emergency stop. If a guest decides to jump forward mid-shot or someone stumbles into the safety zone, we kill the power instantly, and the arm freezes.
On that note, one of our main responsibilities is to actively manage the area, keeping the workspace clear of obstacles, purses, drinks, and enthusiastic dancers. Our staff is trained to guide guests into position safely and make sure they stay there until the robot has finished.
We also help with some of the following glitches:
- Calibration errors: Sometimes the robot gets confused about its position. We check the motor lights and reset the home position.
- Connection drops: If the Wi-Fi stutters, we have hardwired backups or restart protocols to get the sharing station back online in seconds.
- Lighting shifts: If the venue dims the lights for the dance floor, we adjust our exposure and onboard lighting immediately to compensate.
The “After”: Enhancing the Guest Experience
The work we do to set up a Glambot is important, but it’s equally important that we pay attention to the content that’s produced with your Glambot to really accentuate the guest experience.
We don’t hand your guests a raw video file. Instead, we’ll provide you with a polished piece of content.
If you’re using one of the consumer Glambots, like the Jr or Mini, we set up a touchscreen sharing station right next to the robot. As soon as the shot is done, the video is processed and ready to view, letting guests watch themselves in slow motion immediately. The reaction is usually, “Oh my god, look at my hair!” followed by frantic tapping to get the file.
With the true Glambot, however, there is a post-production process required to achieve that signature cinematic look. While some companies have developed custom software to speed up turnaround, videos from the high-end system generally aren’t available for instant viewing at the event.
Where you really get your ROI is in the customization options. We can brand just about anything. For example, we can add:
- Overlays: We can put your logo, the event name, or a cool graphic frame directly onto the video.
- Intros and Outros: We can add a branded animation at the start or end of every clip.
- Music: We can sync the slow-motion video to a specific track that matches your event’s vibe.
There are also instant sharing options. After all, nobody wants to wait until tomorrow to post about the party they’re at tonight! We offer instant sharing via text message, email, or QR code. Video content gets 7% more engagement on social media than images and 84% more than text, so the ROI here is huge.
And of course, our systems are equipped with data collection, so you can walk away from the event with great memories, along with a database of leads who’ve already interacted positively with your brand. To get their video, guests can enter their email or phone number. Easy as that!
